Journalism Competition & Preservation Act Benefits Major Broadcasters, according to Big Tech
The Journalism Competition & Preservation Act (JCPA), a law intended to provide producers of original news content,
like local broadcasters, more control over the re-use of their information online, is under fierce opposition from Big Tech
They contend that rather than the smaller organisations it is intended to serve, the bill will benefit large broadcasters.
In a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee's leadership and its Antitrust Subcommittee, nearly two dozen organisations,
including the Computer & Communications Industry Association, Public Knowledge, Consumer Reports, and others,
argued against granting those broadcasters and other parties an antitrust exemption so they can collaborate in negotiations with Big Tech
The groups claim that the law favours larger broadcasters, such as News Corp., rather than small publishers who most need it.
