 why the development of deepfake video technology has posed a threat to national security.

Imagine having a military leader in our armed forces who looks absolutely credible.

 Hey, look, we're going to blow up X, they announce. And that's what people now think.

The issue is that even if you later disprove it, a portion of people will still believe it to be true.

 For example, some people still believe Bush was responsible for 9/11 and that it was an inside job.

Even if you refute and disprove the deepfake, a certain percentage of individuals will still hold it to be true.
