Amazon will stop selling devices that disable seatbelt alarms in India.

Following a request from the Indian government, Amazon will stop selling items in India that can turn off seatbelt alerts.

The Transport Ministry told CNN Business on Thursday that it had sent a notice to Amazon (AMZN),

ordering it to take down listings of replacement seatbelt clips that can be used to stop car alarms going off when someone isn’t buckled in.

In India, the items are lawful. However, according to Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in a Reuters interview,

many use them "to avoid wearing seatbelts." The move was initially reported by the news agency.

In a statement released on Thursday, Amazon informed CNN Business that "the products in question are no longer accessible."
