Attempts to solve the housing problem are "not good enough" and affordable homes are "depressingly impossible," according to MPs

According to the chair of the Commons Public Accounts Committee (PAC),

government efforts to address the housing problem are "not good enough" and affordable housing is "depressingly unreachable" for regular people.

The NAO stated that there is also a chance that fewer homes may be built than currently anticipated due to rising building costs and labour and material shortages.

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities (DLUHC) initiative hasn't thought about how to promote more general government goals, such the net-zero promises.

The report noted that it had not specified more general goals, such as a decrease in fuel poverty or mixed-race neighbourhoods.

Additionally, the programme, which has been in place since 2015, lacked robust incentives for developers to construct in areas with a significant housing need.

"DLUHC needs to get a handle on things by meeting the goals it established for itself and more effectively providing assistance to people who need it,"
