Authorities in Ukraine survey the devastation in freed Lyman

The wreckage of the destroyed city of Lyman in eastern Ukraine is still being examined by Ukrainian authorities

they determine the humanitarian cost and potential for war crimes caused by a lengthy Russian occupation.

Few structures in the city in the Donetsk region, which Moscow illegally annexed last week in a staged "referendum,"

have escaped undamaged, and the majority of homes lack essential amenities.

The town's walls are covered in bullet-riddled graffiti that serves as a constant reminder of the four-month Russian military occupation.

The slogans "Russia," "USSR," and "Russian World" are scribbled on the walls.
