Dame Hilary Mantel, a Booker Prize–winning author, passed away at the age of 70.

She won the Booker twice for Wolf Hall and its sequel Bring Up the Bodies.

 She is most known for her top-selling historical trilogy about Thomas Cromwell.

 The books were turned into a successful West End play and TV movie.

Her literary agents A.M. Heath and publishers Harper Collins announced Dame Hilary's passing on Friday

More than 5 million copies of her Wolf Hall trilogy, which has been translated into 41 languages, have been sold.

JK Rowling, the creator of Harry Potter, praised her as "a genius."

Philip Hensher, a fellow novelist, was one among many who paid tribute, stating that her "compassion was unexampled."
